Celebrating Cornwall's heritage

Recently George took the time to visit Moseley Museum at Tumblydown Farm in Redruth. 

The museum showcases the engineering prowess behind the Cornish Mining World Heritage Site. From riding behind former locomotives which actually worked in the Mines, to exploring the fantastic collections of Model Railways, the museum is a great place to go to learn about more of our unique heritage and even see a replica of The Murdoch Flyer.

The meeting was a great way to bring together MPs and voluntary sector organisations from across Cornwall to talk about a variety of matters from loneliness, to future funding arrangements for Cornwall, and looking at Social Action Projects.

Portreath to benefit from extra funding for flood protection

£40million of extra Government funding has been made available to boost regeneration and better protect homes against flooding.

Across the country 13 flood schemes will benefit from £40 million of additional funding which will unlock flood defence schemes and help support economic growth and regeneration in areas that have suffered flooding in recent years.

George welcomes new unemployment figures

George recently visited the Job Centre at Redruth for an update on the local situation as far as employment is concerned and the roll out of the new Universal Credit. Unemployment is at its lowest level since the early 70's and is now significantly below the national average here in Camborne and Redruth. The total number of unemployed claimants for June 2018 was 840.

George attends Blood Bikes Charity event

George recently attended a charity event at Jenn's Diner to raise Awareness for Cornwall Blood Bikes. 

Cornwall Blood Bikes are a group of self-funding volunteers operating as a registered charity to provide an "out of hours" courier service to NHS partners throughout Cornwall. They receive no funding by the NHS and rely entirely on the generosity of the community and deliver and collect blood, pathology samples, breast milk, and medication and much more.

George welcomes extra funding to tackle rough sleeping

Recently the Government announced that £30 million will be allocated to the Rough Sleeping Initiative across England. From this funding, Cornwall will be receiving £437,489 representing a significant first step in the government's manifesto commitment of halving rough sleeping by 2022 and eliminating it altogether by 2027.

Murdoch Day 2018

George recently attended the annual Murdoch Day celebrations in Redruth. The day commemorates the achievements of William Murdoch, the inventor and engineer who was one of the pioneers of steam power development in Cornwall and also famously invented the first ever gas light using piped gas.

Many local children, families and members of the community came together to see the excellent procession in the morning, which involved lots of local schools, dance acts and bands.
