Lowlife steals from woman while she feeds those in need in Hayle
Sharon's family has pleaded with the person responsible to hand over the stolen goods
The daughter of a community stalwart whose belongings were stolen as she delivered food to those in need says the actions of those responsible makes her feel sick.
Sharon Wicks has been helping to fill the community food cupboards in Hayle since the first lockdown and was doing her normal rounds yesterday (Tuesday) morning when a lowlife reached into her unlocked car and helped himself to her phone and bag containing her purse whilst parked at the Foundry outside Spar and Warrens.
The handbag contained money, cards and sentimental pictures of a dead relative and Sharon’s daughter Bryannie is appealing to the thief to hand back the stolen goods.
She said: “Mum’s been helping with the community food hub in Hayle since the first lockdown and we are all so proud of her.
“She goes around filling the cupboards with crates and boxes of food she’s bought. Yesterday she was parked outside Warrens and Spar and had her boot open unloading a crate. She didn’t really think she had to lock it.
“She walked to the other side of the road and someone went into the car and stole her handbag. Spar said they saw a man go off with her handbag and we’re asking that he does the right thing and hands it back in.
“She’s had the same phone number (a Samsung Galaxy) since she was 18 and the phone was turned off not long after it was stolen.
“The person who did this was the lowest of the low.”
Just days before the theft Sharon, who also runs Hayle Rugby Club, was awarded a St Piran’s Cross for her efforts during the pandemic.
Bryannie added: “Mum delivered hot meals to 600 people a week and is always helping people. To receive the cross and for this to happen days later in broad daylight is just gutting and makes me feel sick.
“Police are going to have a look at Spar’s CCTV footage but if the person has the decency to turn them in then that’ll be great.”
If anyone is willing to hand over the pink handbag, its contents and the Samsung Galaxy then email christopher.matthews@reachplc.com to organise.
